Dirofilariasis of the Breast

47 year old female with right breast lump of 1month duration which 2*2 cm, upper outer quadrant, firm, well defined, non tender, axilla normal. Eosinophil-3%, Usg-subcutanous lesion can be parasitic cyst. Breast lump excision showing an alive Dirofilaria repens. A rare filarial Zoonosis by Anopheles mosquito bite(intermediate host), dogs are reservoir host and humans are accidental dead end host with no human to human transmission. Eyes and face are the other common reported sites.

Dirofilariasis is an emerging Zoonosis in Southern India. Surgical Excision or Extraction of swelling are both diagnostic and therapeutic.
